2017 GOALS: Washing my makeup brushes (feat. Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel + Palette)

Over the holidays, I did a lot of cleaning and organizing which included a long overdue wash of the makeup brush collection. And it took FOREVER. But it was definitely made easier and more effective with my fave combo of the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel and Deep Cleansing Palette combo!

Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel is my go-to lazy day cleanser (when I run out of my homemade concoction of tea tree oil + baby shampoo). With this concentrated formula, you only need a drop or two lathered up with some warm water to wash a few brushes. It has a really pleasant clean, floral smell to it and it removes a lot of residue, even that nasty liquid foundation gunk.

Now you’ve probably seen a variety of these before from Sigma or Brushegg, but this one is my fave. The Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Palette is a performance-grade silicone “mitt” that has multiple textures that helps really deep clean your brushes.

It fits nicely over the back of your hand giving you control over technique and pressure.

The cleansing surface is about palm-sized too, good for big bad brushes!

My Real Techniques Expert Face Brush was in a really nasty state because I use it to blend foundation every single day. I did about a 5 minutes lather, cleanse, rinse, repeat on it. And… check the results below.

The cleanser and palette really did remove almost all of the residue! There is no foundation build-up or oil left on the left side brush, just a little bit of the skintone pigmentation because I really don’t clean my brushes enough. The rest of the brushes are virtually spotless!

You can grab the Real Techniques cleansing combo at London Drugs and Walmart in Canada. Or online at FarleyCo!

I have over 100 brushes to wash from since last summer and I just can’t get it done, I think you’ve inspired my to do it now.

  • I recently washed pretty much ALL my brushes and my entire bathroom was full of coat hangers with drying upside down brushes. It would’ve gone MUCH FASTER with that mitt! I need to get one of those. Also, those brushes are literally ones I got a few weeks ago at Chelle’s recommendation!

  • I just wash my brushes recently and boii it was a lot of work. I love Real Technique brushes.
