When you need a beautiful shimmer and highlighter to really…
I’m sure a lot of us have had dreams of starting our own makeup line. For Melanie Cruickshank, her dream has come true with da lish Cosmetics. She wanted to know what was in her makeup, so she started making her own from locally sourced ingredients that didn’t include phthalates, parabens, petrochemicals, GMO’s, gluten or sulfates. What started in her small kitchen soon outgrew her space and turned into a full-fledged business!
I’ve been a fan of da lish for quite some time, stocking up on goodies at the One of a Kind Show twice a year, and always stopping to chat with Melanie who, by the way, has such a wonderful spirit.
SILK TO MATTE FOUNDATION – $40 CAD/30 mL
I have dry, patchy skin that is prone to redness with a very uneven tone, so I need something moisturizing, mattifying and smooth. This foundation does just that, with Sunflower Oil and Rosemary in the mix, it doesn’t aggitate my skin just leaving it looking fresh.
The shade I got was actually F02 (Medium) because the Light was quite pale. I find it easier to custom mix shades to go lighter than darker. So even though the swatch on my NW15 skin looks dark, I mix a drop of Face Atelier Zero Minus, a white mixer, and it’s PERFECT.
CREAM METALLIC EYESHADOWS – $22 CAD each
As someone with fairly oily lids, prone to mega creasing, I was concerned about trying a cream shadow. But Melanie assured me these would not budge. And she was right. These light-as-air, whipped metallics go on beautifully and blend out really well.
E02 GOLD is a warm rose gold.
E01 GREEN/GOLD is a beautiful khaki.
One swatch each, you can see how pigmented and creamy they are. The Green/Gold is a bit more sheer than the Gold.
For this look, I used the Gold all over on the lid into the crease and blended it into the Green/Gold in the inner 1/3 of my lid.
You can see the Green/Gold on the inner corner here the most. The Gold (rose gold) leaves a beautiful wash of warm metallic. I blended out with my fingertip very easily, but over UDPP this did not crease ALL DAY.
LIP/CHEEK BALM – $15 CAD
This multi-use product reminds me a lot of the NARS Multiple, but a bit less dry on the lips. The shade I got was B01, Dusty Rose, and it is a perfectly balanced pink. The formula contains rosemary and sunflower oil as well as some castor, and it’s 75% natural.
This is a heavy swatch to show colour, as you can see it’s not too sheer, not too bold and very creamy.
On the lips, it’s a hint of semi-matte colour. I like to add a bit of gloss on top to keep it moisturized.
Here’s the final look using the da lish foundation, eyeshadows and lip/cheek balm on both the lips and cheeks!
