FRAGRANCE FRIDAY: Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream perfume review

Charlotte Tilbury, best known for her beautiful makeup products, has released her first fragrance “Scent of a Dream“. This scent is inspired by her own signature blend of oils sourced from “Ibiza hippie markets”; a blend she has been wearing for over 30 years.

The marketing around this scent is intense. It says, and I quote, “it attracts LOVE, LIGHT, POWER, POSITIVITY and SEX to the wearer!” Now I can’t say that happened to me while I wore it, but this fragrance is definitely unique, mysterious and full of surprises.

But first, let’s talk about the bottle. This isn’t just a pretty face, there is some hippie dippie science behind it.

This bottle is said to “channel the power of the universe and is adorned with magical sacred symbolism, representing everything from heaven and unity to positivity and power, as well as the masculine and feminine form. The middle band of rose gold represents Mars and Venus.”

I couldn’t even paraphrase all of that because it’s a bit too hokey for me. Although, I do like that Charlotte Tilbury’s team put A LOT of thought into it. It’s truly a reflection of her and what she believes in.

The scent itself is really different from anything I have tried before. It starts with a clean citrus scent and quickly wears away to something more magical, more feminine in the form of a delicate dance of florals.

The base of the fragrance is all about the Iso E Super note, a sandalwood/cedarwood synthetic that can be a bit overpowering at times but works nicely in this blend.

The way these notes are blended together also has meaning, no surprise there. I’ll list them below as I received them in the press release, but first my thoughts…

I really, really like the fragrance’s opening notes: a fresh hit of lemon and pepper with a hint of bergamot. I think if this was mixed with the musky and woody notes in the base only it would have been a smash hit for me. The central heart notes were just a bit too overpowering, and even cloying at times. There are just too many florals in here!
