One of the first things I did when I went to…
Hi friends! Today I have Chelsey from My Beauty Full Adventure on the blog as part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers monthly guest post rotation. The theme this month is makeup that lasts through Summer heat!
Summer is officially here in Windsor, Ontario and that means it’s time to break out my waterproof and long-wearing products in hopes of beating the heat. There is really nothing worse than spending all morning applying a flawless face and having it melt away as you step out the door. This is one of my go-to looks for Summer – bold liner, bright lips and minimal eyeshadow.
My skin is naturally on the oily side and the heat seems to amplify that. I like to start with the Nip + Fab Shine Fix Mattifying Gel because it gives my foundation something to stick to, but also absorbs excess oils throughout the day. I add a few spritz of the Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray to make sure that I am really starting with a matte base.
Although BB/CC creams and tinted moisturizers are some people’s preferred base of choice, I find they melt away too quickly. This full coverage Revlon Colorstay 24hr Foundation sets to a flawless finish and does not budge. It claims to last for 24 hours and it really does. Through water, sweat, oil, etc. this foundation pulls through and that’s why I love it for Summer. I finished with some Garnier Anti-Dark Circle Roller in Light and Revlon Colorstay Blemish Concealer in Fair to cover dark circles and blemishes. I set everything with the Physician’s Formula Cover Tox Ten 50 Face Powder.
On my cheeks I used the NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural. I choose a cream blush in the Summer because it gives long-lasting colour that does not budge. I also like that it gives me a dewy finish. Powder on powder on powder mixed with sweat is just a cakey mess waiting to happen. On super hot days I will set my cream blush with a similarly hued powder blush.
I am all about the bright liner in the Summer, so I keep my eyes pretty neutral. I want my products to last all day with no creasing so I always start with a good primer. For this look I used Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray. This concealer like primer covers any veins or discolouration on my eyelids, and really grabs onto any eye products layered on top. To set the primer I swept some Caryl Baker Mineral Eyeshadow in Pillow from the lid to brow bone. This shadow offers a slight shimmer, but otherwise matches my skin tone.
I prefer a coloured pencil liner to coloured liquid liner, but I also really want the liner to last. My trick is to start by lining my eyes with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Liner in Trooper, and creating a wing. Whether as a base or on its own this liner does not budge once it dries. Only makeup remover takes it all off. Once dry, I layered Annabelle’s Smudge Liner in Atomic Surf on top and set it with a similar coloured eyeshadow. This combination of products produces a beautiful teal cat eye that stays perfect from morning to night. I finished by lining my waterlines with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Eye Pencil in Black Velvet, and swiped a few coats of Revlon’s Bold Lacquer Mascara on the top and bottom lashes.
For my brows I filled in the sparse areas with Mary Kay’s Mineral Eye Colour in Driftwood and set them with a bit of Anastasia Brow Gel. On the lips I avoided lipstick and chose a pigmented long-lasting gloss. The Essence Stay With Me Longlasting Lip Gloss in Candy Bar lasts for hours even through drinking and eating. It slightly stains the lips, so I’m left with colour even after the gloss is gone.
To set everything I dosed my face with MAC Fix+, and voila a waterproof, heat-proof, long-lasting makeup look that gets me from brunch to bonfire with no touch-ups.
