Guest Post: Zoë is not Blue About Blue

Hi I’m Zoë from Writing Whimsy and I’m really excited to be visiting Julie’s blog again! The theme this month was Blue and Silver, and I decided I’d dig out all the blue eyeshadow I could find and share those– it’s not a colour I reach for often, but after realizing how many pretty shades of it I have, I might be tempted more often.

NOT BLUE ABOUT BLUE 3First off, I have to talk about an eyeshadow I only have thanks to Julie–she picked it up for me in the split-second it was available on clearance from Sephora, and that’s the Kat Von D Shade Shifter Eyeshadow in Stockholm. Like all the Kat Von D shadows I’ve tried, it’s buttery and pigmented, and this one has a gorgeous blue-pink iridescence to it. I haven’t actually worn it on my eyes yet because it’s totally outside my comfort zone, but it’s so pretty even just to look at.

If you’re looking for a dark and dramatic eyeshadow, the Stila Magnificent Metals Eye Liner in Metallic Navy is a good choice with an unusual texture that works as both an eyeliner and shadow, although I prefer it as a shadow. It’s dark and sparkly and really reminds me of the midnight sky.

NOT BLUE ABOUT BLUE

Swatches from left to right: Kat Von D, Stila, Essence, Clinique, and Too Faced (x2)

I’m not sure if you can still pick up the Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow in Jewel Up The Ocean anywhere, but it’s such a gorgeous crazy and affordable shade I had to share it anyway. I find it easiest to apply with my fingertip, and you really can get some rich pigmentation (I love the eye look I created with it here). It swatches gorgeously but is difficult to apply, however the end result is worth it.

The easiest shadow to apply is probably Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint For Eyes in Plush Periwinkle, which comes in a retractable crayon tube and gives you a very subtle blue-toned base. I did layer it a bit for the swatch, this is definitely a sheer blue with a creamy formula but the Shadow Tint for Eyes are really handy for travel.

The final two shades from the Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette in Badass and Jailbird, both of which I used to create my attempt at an over-the-top eye look in my review of the palette here. Badass is a dark navy with some silver shimmer in it, while Jailbird is easily a favourite from the palette, an icy shimmery blue that is so buttery and gorgeous, it just makes me think of an ice queen.

NOT BLUE ABOUT BLUE 4I thought it would be really hard for me to come up with any blue makeup, but once I started looking in my collection, I realized how many gorgeous shades of blue there are. I am still mostly hooked on my neutrals, but I may have to try adding more of these blue shadows into my looks, cause they are so pretty!

Thanks so much to Julie for having me!
