MAC By Request Hoop, Pink Poodle and Glam lipsticks review

MAC By Request Hoop, Pink Poodle and Glam lipsticks review

Back in July last year, MAC Cosmetics asked their Facebook fans to decide which retro lipstick and eyeshadow shades to bring back for a limited time. Well, finally the time for the reveal has come! The MAC By Request choices are Pink Poodle, Hoop and Glam lipsticks and Fiction, Diesel and Butterscotch eyeshadows!

MAC Pink Poodle glaze lipstick
FIRST PLACE with 391,741 votes:
Pink Poodle – Described as a vivid fuchsia pink, this is has a glaze finish.  This has a very subtle blue shimmer to it.

MAC Pink Poodle lipstick 2
It goes on with a gel-like consistency (a bit similar to Marc Jacobs gel lipstick). This is not the typical glaze formula I am used to that is super drying.

MAC Pink Poodle lipstick
The color is sort of bold but a little subdued, if that makes sense. And because of the cool undertone, it really brightens up my skin.
WEAR TIME: 4 hours or so (typical for Glaze formula)

L-R: Pink Poodle, MAC Girl About Town, Tom Ford Pure Pink
Pink Poodle is the subtle glaze version of Girl About Town! And it is surprisingly close to the one and only Tom Ford I have.

MAC Hoop satin lipstick
SECOND PLACE with 342,613 votes:
Hoop – Described as midtonal rosey pink, this one is satin finish (creamy but not as creamy as amplified).

MAC Hoop lipstick 2
This one applied very evenly and was super pigmented. The formula is fairly typical to the MAC satin formula only a little bit less hydrating than normal.

MAC Hoop lipstick
This is very neutral. In some lights I think it’s a touch warm but in others it looks cool. The more photos I see of people wearing this (with all different skintones) the more I realize this is universally flattering!
WEAR TIME: 6-7 hours

L-R: Hoop, MAC Haute Altitude, NYX Fig round lipstick

MAC Glam matte lipstick
THIRD PLACE with 313,038 votes:
Glam – Described as a vivid bright pink-red in a matte formula. In the tube, it looks almost warm, but wait ’til you see it on…

MAC Glam lipstick 2
This is what I like to call a semi-matte (even though it’s labelled as Matte). It is quite creamy for a matte, not drying at all. And it almost has a sheen to it. One swipe is all you need with this highly-pigmented lipstick, plus it doesn’t bleed/feather.

MAC Glam lipstick
Because you can’t have enough perfect red lipsticks! Honestly, the blue undertone makes my teeth look really white!
WEAR TIME: 7-8 hours. This is almost transfer-proof and when it does fade, it leaves a beautiful pink stain.

My thoughts: All 3 of these are a hit for me with Hoop being my absolute favourite. The formulas are amazing (even the Glaze one which is a finish I don’t typically like) and I feel like all 3 shades could work for anyone. Well done, MAC!

Have you picked up any of the MAC By Request collection?

  • Tanya Lovetere

These are all great but I love Pink Poodle the most!

    • It is so pretty! And I find Girl About Town to be a bit too much for work, so it’s a good alternate.

  • Brittnee KAO

I like Hoop the best too! Seems the most like something I would actually wear a lot, not just for the first hour of an event ha ha.

    • It is so beautiful and flattering! I’m sad it sold out so quickly since I was considering a back up!

  • I really wanted Hoop looking at them online and it’s so awesome you found a dupe! You rock 🙂 All three actually look fantastic on you though. 🙂

    • NYX FIG!!! I have quite a few NYX lipsticks I use to compare to MACs. hehe.

      • I know! I love it 😀

        • I also love how I reverse duped by finding one of the MACs is similar to my precious Tom Ford lol

  • I like pink poodle but because it’s so close to GBT, I will choose Hoop instead, such a pretty pink!

    • Oooh i hope you do get it. I’d love to see how it looks on you.

  • Pink Poodle is gorgeous! I have the gloss in that shade, I need to pull it out for spring! 🙂

    • I know! I almost skipped it because I don’t usually like glaze formula.

  • I love Pink Poodle, I don’t have anything like it! All 3 shades look lovely on you 🙂

    • Awww thanks Natalie! I honestly couldn’t believe how stunning all 3 were!

  • i like all of these and thanks for the NYX fig dupe point out.

  • Red looks so good on you!!

I’m planning my big MAC shop (maybe not *that* big) for the Lorde launch, and I’m wondering…any suggestions for products to buy? 😀

    • ALL OF IT! Seriously though I am addicted to Paint Pots, especially Painterly as a base. I also really love the CC powders to correct my redness. And their brow pencils are amazing. Fix + is good for nighttime makeup setting. And Chatterbox lipstick is my HG.

      • OH one more suggestion. Chromagraphic pencil in NC15/NW20. Acts as spot concealer, highlight brows, clean up liner and shadow. It’s freaking magic.

  • They all look great on you! I think I need Hoop, if only because I lack neutral lipsticks.

  • Megan Joy

Hoop is so pretty! It’s almost like a nude on you, with just a hint of colour. SO pretty!

  • These all look great on you! I never really got into lipsticks, I’m more a lipgloss person.

  • They’re all so pretty! I resisted only because I hate ordering things online but I wish I would have bought Hoop.
