Mac Cosmetics Stroke of Midnight Lip and Cheek Bag in Coral swatches and review

The Mac Cosmetics Stroke of Midnight collection is glamorous and decadent. Among all the sets they are offering, the Mac store exclusive Lip and Cheek Bag: Coral really grabbed my attention. Not only does it come with a gorgeous makeup bag you can use as a clutch, but it has some great party-size options perfect for the holiday season. Let’s explore!

Stroke of Midnight Bag

Stroke of Midnight Bag
The makeup bag itself is stunning. It’s a patent leather-like bag with white and gold trim. No cheaping out here. The stitching is top notch and the zipper including Mac branded zipper pull is very high quality. And I love the pattern inside.

Then there’s this slim pocket-size mirror. It gets fingerprints really easily and is a bit tough to take out of the sleeve, but it is pure glass. Not cheap plastic. About the size of a credit card.

Stroke of Midnight 129SE
The set comes with a Mac powder/blush brush, model 129SE. As with most SE brushes, this one is a bit rougher than the one from the permanent line. I was a bit disappointed in the quality but I love the detailing.

Stroke of Midnight Margin Blush
A half-size blush is included here. It’s Margin, a frost finish from the permanent line. It’s a very light coral with a lot of shimmer. It was a bit chalky, not as smooth as some blushes.

Here’s a comparison of the blush next to a full-size one. Note the glossy black packaging and gold detailing.

Ladies (and gents) the reason I bought this bag… the lips. Included in the set: 1 lipstick and 1 lipglass and both are real stunners.
Pure Sophistication lipglass – described as gold frost, it’s sheer with a lot of gold sparkle. Not too sticky either. Love this over red!
Night to Remember (Cremesheen) – described as a warm red frost. It’s a bit translucent but wearable for everyday because it’s not overpowering.

L-R: Pure Sophistication, Night to Remember vs. Prepare for Pleasure (Divine Night holiday 2013)
In the tube, Night to Remember looks just like Prepare for Pleasure. It’s a nice warm red, leaning a bit berry and it has some gold shimmer to it. Luckily it is quite different in person. Prepare for Pleasure goes on more opaque and leans a bit more berry where Night to Remember is softer and warmer.

L-R comparison: Night to Remember (Stroke of Midnight), Love Goddess (Marilyn), Prepare for Pleasure (Divine Night), Just a Bite, Blood Red (DSquared), Cockney.

Final verdict? You should know by now that I LOVE Limited Edition sets, especially the holiday ones. For $59.50 USD ($71 CAD!!!), it is almost not worth it since the blush is half-size and the brush is of lesser quality. But the bag and lip products make up for it! Available ONLY at Mac standalone stores and at

NOTE: These products do not come in individual boxes, which bothers completest Mac collectors like me. Just thought you should know.
