If you want a sheer wash of color and shimmer,…
Awhile back, my friends from Make Up For Ever came to Toronto to introduce us to the NEW Ultra HD Foundation. Yes the foundation you already love has been improved!
Now you may be wondering how (and why) MUFE would change up your fave formula, but there is a clear answer: as technology advances and cameras get better and better, so should the makeup we wear! We can now shoot in full 4k video which means you can see every pore, every blemish… even more so than before.
Now I was actually new to Make Up For Ever’s Ultra HD line and was really excited to get shade matched…
Especially since the beautiful Feelo from Filosophie was working this event, shown here applying shade Y225 to Chelle from Makeup Your Mind.
There are two shade families of Ultra HD, on the left is the R family (pink undertones) in shade R220 Pink Porcelain. And next to it is the Y family (yellow undertones) in shade Y225.
The Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick I grabbed was R230 as I wanted a slightly darker, pink tone to colour correct under my eyes and in the “yellow” areas of my face (around my mouth).
So why both? Well the trick to choosing a foundation undertone is something we are all familiar with: flip your arm over and look at your wrist. Blue/purple veins, prone to redness? PINK UNDERTONES! And yes, I have that but when I get a bit of sun I actually lean more towards neutral/golden and match better with the Y family. In the winter, my skin changes and is a bit closer to the R family. (I have a neutral skintone on my face and neck which explains the chameleon effect)
This pump is THE BOMB. It dispenses just the right amount of product and is easy to clean.
Now what about the shade you already use? Don’t worry, they’ve got that covered too. Not only have they added MORE shades but they also list the old code (110, 117) and the equivalent newer, undertone-based code.
A bit about the formula:
“Long lasting with a natural-looking finish, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation is formulated with hyaluronic spheres to ensure comfortable wear on all skin types. Now available in an expanded range of 40 shades to match all skintones, it’s the perfect everyday foundation for a flawless complexion—and an unretouched life.
The Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation scared me a bit. Every cream foundation I have ever tried looks cakey and patchy. But this formula right here is so silky and creamy, it blends like a dream and I honestly love it.
Here’s a comparison of the R family vs the Y family. For pale girls like me, it can be tough finding just the right shade, so having both and being able to mix and match is so amazing. The Y shade may look dark and yellow on my very pale arm, but on my face it blends right in.
I used the Stick Foundation under my eyes, on any blemishes and around my mouth where it is slightly darker and somewhat scarred.
I’m wearing the Y225 in this photo because skin still isn’t at its palest. And it is an exact match! Where does the foundation end and where do I begin? You’ll never know! And honestly, I can get away with wearing either one of them and blending it out, but customizing makes me feel so much more confident once I go out into the daylight.
This foundation minimizes my pores and, obviously, photographs well. I do have to touch-up a bit during the day if I don’t use setting powder, but that’s par for the course for me.
