Wow, Maybelline sure knows how to throw a birthday party!…
Contouring, it’s everywhere! And doing it right takes the right technique and products. Well the new Marc Jacobs #Instamarc Light Filtering Contour Powder ($59 CAD) is just that, the PERFECT contouring combo. Let me tell you why…
#Instamarc comes in 3 shades, to suit a varitey of skintones:
- 20 Dream Filter – soft pink/ medium bronze
- 40 Mirage Filter – light gold/ light bronze
- 60 Hi-Fi Filter – warm peach/ deep bronze
I received the darkest shade, Hi-Fi Filter, so although I won’t be showing you photos of my contoured face with this one (because, really, a dark contour kit on a pale girl’s face will not do justice to this gorgeous compact), I will be showing off some gorgeous swatches.
The compact itself is typical luxe Marc Jacobs, with a high-shine enamel finish and a sturdy push-button closure.
The compact is also quite thin, so making room in your vanity or makeup storage won’t be a problem.
IT’S HUGE TOO! Bigger than the palm of my hand, and you get a TON of product, 2 x .31 oz (2 x 9g), which is A LOT by comparison… more on that in a bit.
Warm peach – this shade is a bit darker than my skintone (MAC NW 15), and would probably work well on ladies with a bit of an olive-toned complexion a few shades darker than me.
Medium bronze – this is a bit of a warm brown, but it still is ok on my skin as it’s not too too dark. It can be used to contour or even as a bronzer.
These are really buttery and smooth. They are finely-milled (or “jet-milled” as per the press release) and blend out like a dream. Think velvet and silk. AND there are vitamins A, C and E in here to keep skin soft and nourished. What I like the most about the powders is that they are matte but have some dimension to them, so no horrible chalky flashback in photos.
And if you’re wondering about the value, this is the Marc Jacobs contour palette (2 x 0.31 oz) at $59 CAD next to the Make Up Forever Sculpting Kit Duo 2 (2 x 0.17 oz) at $55 CAD. The formula is very similar to the MUFE kit as well, only the lighter shade is more peach and darker in the Marc Jacobs, which actually looks great over dark eye circles.
Because I didn’t get a chance to really play around with this set on my face (because of the shade mismatch), I AM sending this beauty off to my friend who has a much darker skintone than I do. I’ll link to her review when it goes up!
