Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid liquid eyeliner for Summer 2014 review

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid liquid eyeliner for Summer 2014 review

This warm weather has me singing, dancing and wearing brighter colours. So I was super pumped when Mary Kay sent over 4 new BOLD and bright Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid liquid eyeliners for me to have a little fun with.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner review 1

Turn up the fun factor with this super-cool shade. Whether you go for a basic eye look with a fun pop of colour or an all-out, multi-coloured work of art, Mary Kay At Play™ has you covered with high-impact bold fluid eyeliners.

WARNING: I suck at eyeliner. Be prepared for many images of eyeliner all over my lashes…

L-R: Gold Metal, Blue My Mind, The Real Teal, Hello Violet

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner The Real Teal
The Real Teal reminds me of the ocean. It’s shimmery, a bit subtle and very teal bordering on seafoam.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner The Real Teal 1
FORMULA:
I had to go over my lash line a few times to get this intensity. The formula was a bit watery. But daaamn this is stunning.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner The Real Teal 2
I found this fairly easy to use as far as creating a nice wing.

You can see in this shot that it goes on a bit watery and patchy.

But I love the look from far way. WATCH OUT though, this one stains the skin a bit.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Hello Violet
Hello Violet is a royal purple with a hint of shimmer.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Hello Violet Gold Metal 1
FORMULA:
Very opaque and pigmented. A bit on the thick side. It actually felt a bit tight on my lids when it dried too.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Hello Violet Gold Metal 2
This wasn’t as watery as the teal, but I did have to work at it a bit swiping AND dabbing for even coverage.

The purple against my eyes is really quite stunning. Definitely digging this colour for me. The gold gives a nice pop too. And speaking of Gold…

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Gold Metal
Gold Metal is a warm yellow gold shimmer. I wouldn’t wear this one on its own, so I have paired it with both the purple and the blue.

FORMULA:
Opaque in one stroke, fairly thick but not goopy. This one was a bit “wetter” than the others but still fairly easy to work with.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Blue My Mind
Blue My Mind is a matte royal blue, similar to Lime Crime’s Lazuli only not as bright and pigmented.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Blue My Mind Gold Metal 1
Shown here paired with Gold Metal.

FORMULA (for the blue):
Again, fairly watery on first application. Not as pigmented as some liners I have tried (and I got it all over my lashes which I am actually cool with).

The end result though… BAM! I love it. Because of the lighter formula, when compared to Lime Crime, this is easy to blend and fix.

Mary Kay at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner Blue My Mind Gold Metal 3
This is a good shot of both the blue and gold working together. A bit of a weird look (it was way cooler in my head. )

Gold and blue look. I feel like these are some sort of sports team colours…

From far away Blue My Mind… really does… blow my mind. Ugh, I went there.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

  • The brush applicator is only ok. It’s a bit stiff making it harder to work with the liquid.
  • I do like the formula though, these stay put for hours (even after a good cry!)

The Mary Kay At Play Bold Fluid Liners are available from your lovely neighbourhood Mary Kay consultant OR online at MaryKay.ca for $12 CAD!

Lol I absolutely love the blue! I was looking to get the one similar from Lime Crime, but I’m pretty sure this one from Mary Kay is cheaper. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    • Although the Mary Kay is cheaper, the Lime Crime has a bit more product and is a bit bolder.

  • Megan Joy

These are so bright, I love the purple one. It really does make your eyes pop!

  • Tanya Lovetere

I am not good with flimsy liquid eyeliners like this but that blue is beautiful!

    • Lime Crime has an amazing blue, Lazuli. It has a great brush too. In fact, all their eyeliners are gorgeous.

  • Yeah, you went there… I love the blue on the outer half of your lashes – looks gorgeous!

  • The colour on these is gorgeous! I want to try and play so much!

    • If I had used a disposable brush for these I would totally send you some… sadly I did not… 🙁

  • looks like we’ve come to the same conclusions. dont know if i’ll keep them or give them away. i feel like it might be nice to have htese colors around in case i ever need them but…the applicator really makes it a downer for me.

    • The blue one I have a good dupe for in Lime Crime, so that can go to my niece for sure. The teal I am in love with and the gold I use as an accent. All in all, B-? I hate grading things lol

  • These are such fun colors for the summer. It’s a shame the applicator isn’t great.

  • I’ve never really had any interest in Mary Kay products but these liners look amazing! I’m all about bright liners for spicing up neutral looks lately. But too bad about the application.

  • Cassandra Turcotte

Oh the bright blue looks awesome. I hope I have some of these waiting in my mailbox for me.
