Mary Kay Midnight Jewels Eye Color Palette in Sapphire Noir and Emerald Noir review

Mary Kay Midnight Jewels Eye Color Palette in Sapphire Noir and Emerald Noir review

Mary Kay has released a collection of gorgeous shades  inspired by the world’s most precious jewels. The Midnight Jewels Eye Color Palettes are anything but ordinary, from the geometric design to the buttery, gem-toned shadows, these looks are versatile and stunning.

Each palette contains five complementary, buildable shades so you can go from day to night, depending on the colour intensity. The formula applies smoothly and evenly for high-impact colour that lasts.

These palettes are magnetic and meant to fit in the Mary Kay compact, which has two layers (the top one is magnetic too, and the bottom is for storing tools but I just threw the second palette in there for safe keeping).

EMERALD NOIR has two tones of emerald green shimmer, 2 tone of satin matte warm browns and a bronze shimmer to give you countless eye looks.

These swatches show about 3 swipes of each shadow (except the matte browns are only 2 swipes). Each shade is silky smooth and buildable. A bit of glitter fall-out on the centre shade but not much.

For my first look, I went subtle using the two browns to create a base look (the light brown all over and the darker brown in the outer V)

Then I gently patted a very light layer of the lighter green shade to give my lid a slight iridescent effect.

For the second look I tried to incorporate all the shades. I found the green shimmers took some building up to get more intense colour, and I even damped the brush a bit for the crease shade.

I started with the light green all over and the darker green in the outer V and crease.
Blended out crease to browbone with the light brown.
A bit of the darker brown as liner.
Centre light bronze shimmer in the centre of my lid for a highlight effect.

Shown here 2 swipes each, you can see the blues are a bit patchy in studio light.

Using flash, you can see the shimmers come to life.

I found this palette to be a bit more finicky than the last. The greys weren’t as easy to blend and I had to use a lot of the pinks and blues to get a decent colour pay-off.

I started with the pink in the outer corner and worked towards the centre where I added some of the lighter blue.
Then I applied the darker blue to the outer V and a bit into the crease and blended in the darker grey.
I used the lighter grey to blend out the crease to brow bone (And it was a bit patchy.)

THOUGHTS: The one thing I’ll note about both these palettes is that the shimmers are much like MAC’s Mineralize formula. It goes on intense when using a damp brush (a spray of Fix+ will do it), but you can get a nice light shimmer if you apply dry. And as with all shimmer shadows, wear a primer! EMERALD NOIR is the stand out of the two for sure.

The Mary Kay Midnight Jewels collection is limited edition, so grab these fast! Each Eye Color Palette is $26 CAD and available online or from your Mary Kay rep. And make sure to pick up a compact to house your new palette!

Beautiful eye looks! I like them all. I didn’t think that I could wear those dark purples and gray but your eye look with that is pretty and shows how truly wearable these shadows really are for everyday.

  • Gah, Emerald Noir is super gorgeous! Love the looks you created with it, Julie 🙂
