Did you know the Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum program is…
The One of a Kind Show is back in Toronto for the Christmas 2016 season and it’s as badass as ever. They have really upped their game this year with great advertising (Makers Make It Better) and an even bigger group of vendors. But no worries, some of your old faves are still there.
For this year’s guide, I decided to be a little selfish and just pick out things I would get myself if I had unlimited cash. Because I feel like if you’re reading this blog a lot, we probably have similar taste!
Moonrox Jewelry has been my first stop every year for as long as I can remember. The first few years, I would grab small things like hair clips adorned with vintage, upcycled pieces but this year I have my eye on something bigger. Something that makes a statement.
These gorgeous necklaces! I don’t even remember the price but I definitely want the blue one.
Another frequent stop is Daniel Pollak. My mom and I used to have a tradition that every OOAK we would pick out something up, as a Treat Yo’self gift.
I have quite a few brooches and bracelets from this maker, but this year I would probably go full cat lady and grab that cat + umbrella pin.
If you’re a hipster from Toronto, you’re probably familiar with Crywolf Clothing. I have a few clothing pieces from them, and when they recently launched a line of metal pins, I COULD BARELY STOP MYSELF. (If you know me, you know I have an enamel lapel pin obsession).
Recognize that garbage panda one? Yep, I picked that little guy at the CNE this year and it made an appearance on my Insta (as well as on my jacket at numerous events).
But Crywolf wasn’t the only one competing for space on my jacket. Mehoi had line of pins this year, and I really want that teabag.
Mehoi also had a line of stickers which included some dildo ones. You really get me, Mehoi.
And then I was two seconds away from a real Treat Yo’self moment when I hit up the Sartoria booth. Who doesn’t want a cashmere bralette?
OR HIGH-WAISTED CASHMERE UNDIES!
I really did have a few in my hand until I saw that super pricey price tag (I think it was like $60).
But damn, I want me some wool pantaloons.
And speaking of pretty warm things I probably can’t afford, Precocious has the most adorable cropped sweaters.
Look how pretty this sweater is though. $80 ain’t bad, right?
The next few aisles focused on home decor and art. I was mesmerized by the lightboxes at Mini Cinema. And although these were waaaay out of my price range, I am inspired to make one on my own.
I don’t know what it is about handblown glass that captures my attention, but these hanging baubles from Studio Vine Glass are stunning.
Smells Like Canada has been high up on my list of vendors I need to go back to. Every show, Natalie (founder/owner) surprises me with more uniquely Canadian scents and lots of great new products. And yes, the candle above smells like bacon.
Some of the signature scents include Double Double, Cape Breton Clover, BC Bud, Red Deer Rose and, my fave, Cabane a Sucre. I spent a good long time at this booth smelling each one and chatting with Natalie because she is my kind of peeps.
A new trend I’ve been seeing lately are concrete planters, and I’m into it. The Your Pal, Al booth located in the Rising Stars area had a swarm of people at all times.
Near the end of my shopping trip, I found these adorable dodecahedron planters from Double L Decor. I’m going to have to go back and grab these. Regrets.
The food aisles at OOAK are pure madness. Vendors give out samples and people go crazy for free stuff. I couldn’t get near a lot of the booths, but I noticed quite a few vendors were from last year and the year before. I’ve spent lots of time with them. But this year, I couldn’t pass by Smoke. I mean, look at that display!
This smoked sea salt is the most flavourful thing I’ve ever had at the show. I also tried a caesar drink from this booth and… I still hate caesars.
So what did I ACTUALLY end up buying? Not much…
I grabbed a Smells Like Canada candle, a Crywolf pin and some cheese flavoured shortbreads for my Dad. A very mini haul compared to prior visit but I am happy with it!
