NEW! Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Fair & Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer in Warm L3 comparison and review

Two new concealers are coming your way this summer! Both are amazing for different reasons and both are from two of my fave beauty brands: Too Faced and Kat Von D Beauty!

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer Fair review

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer is infused with coconut water for moisture, alpine rose for brightening and hyaluronic acid for a smoothing effect. This is a great, natural-looking concealer that really blends in well to the skin.

The doe foot applicator has a bit of an angle, making it easy to get into hard-to-reach places. The consistency of the concealer has a wet/watery yet creamy texture.

The Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer isn’t new but the packaging and applicator are! Plus, there will be an extended shade range including a pure white. I love the doe foot on this, it has a slight angle and a diamond-shaped head for precision. The formula is thick and slightly tacky on this, great if you have darker imperfections (or tattoos).

You can really see the difference in the formula over my tattoo. The Too Faced one is a bit thinner and has a more wet texture (as evidenced by the air bubbles), while the Kat Von D consistency is thicker and more opaque.

Too Faced concealer comes in 10 shades, Fair being the second lightest. Kat Von D concealer comes in 21, L3 with warm undertones being the 3rd lightest!

Left eye: Too Faced. Right eye: Kat Von D. See the difference? The Born This Way concealer is thinner with not as much coverage but it has a very natural appearance. The Lock-It Concealer is thicker so make sure you get the right shade (this one is a tad too light for me so under my eye looks stark). But damn does it make my undereye area look flawless.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer will be available June 15.
Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer will be available July 5.

WHAT DO YOU PREFER IN A CONCEALER: A NATURAL LOOK WITH LIGHT COVERAGE OR A THICK CONSISTENCY WITH FULL COVERAGE?

  • These both sounds great for different reasons! I want a concealer that won’t settle into my fine lines, or make my under eyes look dry and crepy (sp?).

  • Such an informative post!

  • Loveee the blue mascara on you! I have really been liking the Too Faced Concealer, I am interested to try the KVD – I bought the original lock it and surprisingly didn’t like it under my eyes and I love her stuff!

  • I much prefer natural concealer so I’ll be picking up the one from Too Faced. i do find Kat Von D base products tend to be really thick and full coverage which is not something that I like.

  • I have the lightest too faced shade, and it’s too dark on me. I swear I got a bad one, because everyone else seems to be fine with their super light colour, but on me, it starts off too dark and oxidizes throughout the day. Excited to hear how many shades the Kat Von D concealer will have!

    • There’s 21 shades. 😀

I got the lightest two Too Faced and they oxidize badly. They’re near identical in depth, if not totally identical in depth, the difference is that Very Fair is more neutral olive, and Fair is very pink/peach. And when they oxidize they get darker but that Fair gets RIDICULOUSLY orange.

  • Ohh dang the KVD looks great on you! I think I’m going to need to get a sample of these two – I want full coverage, but I’m always so afraid of my under eyes looking dry.

  • What are the ingredients in the KVD?

    • @stephh_lau:disqus do you know?

I ended up ordering 1-7 from Sephora today (by a fluke I spotted that they launched both her site and there this morning, a week early) so I grabbed them there. Your swatches are making me think 1 or 3 but we’ll see. I am really hoping the ingredients surface. I hate that they’re not online anywhere because I am nervous I’ll get them here and be allergic to it.
