The Body Shop Shimmer Waves Blush and Smoky Poppy Blush Brush review

The Body Shop Shimmer Waves Blush and Smoky Poppy Blush Brush review

Some people say you can’t wear shimmer past a certain age or with a certain skin type. I say screw them, shimmer makes the world go ’round!

Now I’ve been eyeing The Body Shop Shimmer Waves ($22 CAD) blush palettes for a few years, but I thought it would be too shimmery on me. I finally took the plunge during a major sale and I couldn’t be happier!

The Shimmer Waves “brick” I got was shade 02, Blush: a beautiful collection of warm copper-y pinks.

Depending on the lighting, it transforms from pinks to almost peaches and coppers.

What first struck me about the design is that it almost mimics the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks, with maybe a bit less shimmer.

Blended together, dark half, light half. The colour payoff is amazing. It’s very soft and smooth, almost bronze-y copper when blended.

For this look, I used a small brush to layer the darker shaded under my cheekbones and then highlight using the lighter shades on top.

But if I want to swirl and blend all the colours together, I just use a nice soft kabuki brush like this one…

Can we just take a moment to admire how adorable the new Smoky Poppy Blush Brush is? It’s only $15 CAD and soft as petals.

Using the blush brush, I swirled it on the palette a few times and blended it onto my cheeks for a nice all over glow. The brush is perfect if you want an overall light application, not concentrated.

I am pretty much in love with my new Shimmer Waves palette, and I think I may pick up the bronze shade for in the summer. And the brush? Well, it’s almost too cute to use (but I can’t resist using it, it’s so soft!)

This looks lovely – I’ve never tried them but they remind me of the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips which I love. TFS!

  • I so agree – shimmer for everyone! I like how this is a little subtler than the Bobbi Brown actually. I haven’t used it, but just based on reviews and photos, the BB looks a little TOO glitter bomb for me.

  • I bought this very same colour last year sometime (I think) and was so impressed by its versatility (eyes, cheeks, wherever you damn like) BUT I stopped wearing it because it tended to emphasize pores and lines. I still stare at it from time to time hoping it’ll be my friend again. It’s a gorgeous product.
