What’s new from bareMinerals? (Fall 2016 media preview)

What do you know about bareMinerals? Maybe you know them from their powder foundation, or their loose powder pots, or their complexion starter kits. But as I learned a few weeks ago, bareMinerals is oh so more than that.

In Canada, bareMinerals hasn’t really been a big player in the game. But all of that is about to change. A few weeks ago, I met Bill Hughes, Sr. Director, Global Marketing & Product Development at bareMinerals, and he let me in on some of the upcoming innovations, gave me a bit of history about the brand and unveiled plans to take over the Canadian market.

bareMinerals skincare

bareMinerals was founded in 1976 to challenge the norms and standards of the industry: this San Francisco based brand wanted to launch makeup that didn’t have a long list of ingredients and was good for the skin. This all started with the original bareMinerals powder foundation, it was five ingredients and sold locally for years. Then in the 90s, it hit QVC and…  sold out instantly. This magical compact of powder has since gone on to win countless awards and opened the door for more bareMinerals products.

What you may not know is that bareMinerals joined the Shiseido family in 2011 and made huge waves in the US market. They released their first liquid foundation in 2014, ther first gel tint in 2015 and this year… oh man, there is so much happening! And it’s all coming to Sephora Canada.

bareMinerals Gen Nude Radiant Lipstck

Let’s start with lips. The Gen Nude lip line launches in September and has 60 SHADES (!!!). Let’s do the math here, that’s 20 lipsticks, 20 matte liquids, 15 lipgloss, and 5 liners. All in a variety of warm and cool nude shades for the palest skin to the deepest.

bareMinerals Gen Nude lipstick

Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick is a medium coverage, creamy lipstick that is super hydrating with a demi-shine finish. This also has “lip loving” ingredients so it gives you a bit of a lip treatment too as you wear it. ($25 CAD)

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor

Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor is already selling out in the US market, and now I know why.  It’s a lightweight, cream-to-matte finish that is not sticky or tacky. It’s longwearing and feels amazing on the lips. And it smells like birthday cake! ($23 CAD)

bareMinerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lipgloss

Gen Nude Buttercream Lipgloss is the lipgloss we’ve all been waiting for. It’s a hybrid balm and gloss in one, has sheer to medium coverage and plumps the lips with peppermint oil (without any tingly feeling). The finish is NOT sticky at all either. ($23 CAD)

bareMinerals Gen Nude

Shown above lipgloss, matte lip, lipstick, liner. I forgot to write down the shades though.

Gen Nude Under Over Lip Liner is a very rich and velvety liner. It’s heavily pigmented, creamy, and blendable for defining the lip line, wearing alone or for a little liner after the fact. This is a typical wooden pencil you need to sharpen. ($20 CAD)

bareMinerals Double Cleansing

Now I had no idea bareMinerals did skincare, but apparently they do and it is the bomb! Launching in August, this includes additions to their current line like near cleansers and a kick ass mud mask.

bareMinerals Mix Exfoliate Smooth grains brus

Mix. Exfoliate. Smooth. are “add-to-cleanser polishing grains” used in the double cleansing process. ($32 CAD) How it works is you spray the Double Cleansing Brush ($22 CAD), sprinkle some grains on it, squeeze on some cleanser and then buff it into your skin. This gives you customized exfoliation using a cleanser that suits your skin type. And, oh yea, bareMinerals has amazing cleansers too of course.

bareMinerals Mix Exfoliate Smooth grains
The exfoliating grains are made from sweet orange peel, chardonnay grapes, rose essence, black rice and sea salt. I cannot wait to try these!

bareMinerals Dirty Detox mud mask

Dirty Detox Skin Glowing and Refining Mud Mask has 4 clays (moroccan rhassoul, french green, brazilian green, spanish coastal), japanese white charcoal and papaya, with a scent of bergamot and eucalyptus, which I am learning is a signature scent for a lot of this skincare. It helps clean out the pores and give you a glow without being too tight or harsh. ($39 CAD)

bareMinerals Dirty Detox mud mask brush

There’s also a Mask Smoothing Brush and Mask Removal Cloth set for $22 CAD, making it easy to apply the mask and remove it when you’re done.

bareMinerals Pure Plush Clay Chameleon Blemish Remedy cleanser

The bareMinerals cleansers come in four formulas to suit each type of skin.

Pure Blush Gentle Deep Cleansing foam is a cream to foam wash with a citrus rosemary formula, for normal to combo skin. Ingredients include grapefruit, elderflower, rosemary, sea salts. ($25 CAD)

Clay Chameleon Transforming Purifying Cleanser helps refine skin that is oily and acne prone. It starts as a red clay and, when mixed with water, turns into a white cream. Ingredients include sea salt, Brazilian red clay, papaya, bamboo. ($25 CAD)

Blemish Remedy Acne Treatment Gelee Cleanser is a lightweight gel formula with salicylic acid. This replaces the existing Blemish Remedy fomula that is a cult favourite! Ingredients include sea salts, salicylic acid, peppermint, ginger root. ($36 CAD)

Oil Obsessed Total Cleansing Oil melts like butter on skin contact but it cleanses off as milk. Great for drier skin that needs a boost of hydration. Ingredients include sea salts, bilberry, borage, cucumber, sunflower. ($35 CAD)

bareMinerals True Oasis Bare Haven Butter Drench moisturizer

Remember when I said there was a lot of skincare? Still going…

True Oasis Oil-Free Replenishing Gel Cream is great for oily skin with its light texture and balancing properties. Ingredients include algae, peptides, ceremides and amino acids to help smooth skin and balance it out. ($39 CAD)

Bare Haven Essential Moisturizing Soft Cream is for normal to combo skin and has St. John’s Wort inside to keep skin soft, smooth and well-balanced. ($42 CAD)

Butter Drench Restorative Rich Cream is for Dry is a shea butter based cream with subtle notes of bergamot and eucalyptus. Perfect for skin on the dry side. ($45 CAD)

Smart Combination Smoothing Lightweight Emulsion also has a hit of St. John’s Wort to boost radiance and bring balance and clarity. This is the most lightweight moisturizer of the bunch. ($42 CAD)

bareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusin

Skin Longevity Vital Power Infusion Serum is the biggest launch for bareMinerals this year. This essence is about skin health, getting your skin in tip-top shape from the inside out. Ingredients include california poppy and ginger. Fun fact: 90% of women who tried this thought their skin looked and felt healthier after 2 weeks. ($60 CAD)

bareMinerals BarePro powder foundation

Introducing the biggest shade range ever from bareMinerals! BarePro Performance Wear Powder Foundation is a buildable, medium to full coverage foundation that is silky soft and doesn’t cling to dry patches. It replaces previous powder foundation that only had 20 shades. It boasts 12-hour wear with a blend of “skin-loving ingredients” (90% vitamins and minerals). This has a natural matte finish and is hypoallergenic. ($36 CAD)

bareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear Powder Foundation Core Coverage brush

This release also includes a Core Coverage brush, a double density synthetic brush for blending and an airbrushed finish. ($38 CAD)

A lot of these new bareMinerals products are up on Sephora Canada already, check it out here! I am the most excited to play around with all the new skincare, how about you?
