It’s rare when the One of a Kind Show falls…
It has been awhile since I featured Avon, so I figured I would kick things off again with the Avon True Color Matte Eyeshadow Quads!
Now I LOVE me some glitter and shimmer, but sometimes the skin on my lids gets a bit dry (especially in the winter). Matte shadows are perfect to give your look definition without accentuating any fine lines or dryness! And these quads are numbered so you can create the perfect, almost ombre look. Or you can go off script like I usually do.
Tranquility is a beautiful mix of blues against a white backdrop. Shade names: snow, mystic, pool, midnight.
I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth these were too, not powdery at all which can happen with mattes. Look at that teal!
Now of course, on the eye it didn’t go on as bold because I was using a brush (and I really didn’t want bright, bold colour for work). So the good news is you can definitely tone down this look if you want.
I love the watercolour-inspired look I was able to create blending all three blues together, concentrating the darker shade in the outer corner. The white shade is a perfect base to help those other colours pop.
Desert Sunset is a beautiful warm and complementary quad. Where the last quad was more co-ordinating blues, this one pairs a purple and orange together to really make things bold. Shade names: camel, coral, eggplant, cocoa.
Again, swatching these I was delighted at how nice and smooth they were. The purple was a bit on the dry side, but still gorgeous.
Now I don’t love how the two orange shades look on my skintone, bordering on a bruised skin look. But can you imagine these shades on a tan or olive skintone?
All of these shades blended well, except the purple gave me a bit of trouble in the crease (due to its drier texture).
Smoke & Fog was the one I was most excited about. I don’t have a lot of greyish blues in my collection, so this was a welcomed addition. Shade names: soft vanilla, cocoa, blue gray, black.
I was a bit disappointed at how patchy the blue gray and cocoa were in this quad, but that black is pretty nice! Not intensely pigmented, but great for a smoky lashline.
I used the blue grey on the lid, and you can see it didn’t really show up that much.
I also had a bit of trouble blending that cocoa shade, maybe chalk it up to a bad morning? The black shadow made for a great liner though with little to no fallout!
From further away you can see the blue grey a bit, but I love this quad so much, I used it for a Fashion Mag Beauty Panel challenge. I plan on testing it out with more opaque primers (like KVD Lock-It or MAC Painterly).
Do you love matte shadows? If so, these Avon quads are great value… on sale now for $7.99 CAD!
