DAVIDsTEA 24 Days of Tea advent calendar – WEEK 1

DAVIDsTEA 24 Days of Tea advent calendar – WEEK 1

Most people wait until December to start opening their advent calendars, but I figured a lot of you would want to take a look inside the DAVIDsTEA 24 Days of Tea ($40 CAD) before it sold out! If you want to learn more about the design of this year’s calendar, check my review.

(Note: as I was in the process of writing this post, it has sold out online but is definitely available at most stores)

DAVIDsTEA Sleigh Ride Tea IG
Day 1 – Sleigh Ride
Fruit Infusion, Caffeine-Free
This one is fruity, tangy and a bit spicy. It reminds me of mulled wine and apple cider because of the strong cinnamon flavour, and the popped rice is a nice addition as I think it adds a bit of nutty and smoky.

Ingredients: Apple, hibiscus blossoms, pineapple (pineapple, sugar), papaya (papaya, sugar), beetroot, cinnamon, raisins, coconut, roasted almonds (almonds, sugar, glucose syrup, vegetable fat, caramelized sugar syrup), popped rice, natural and artificial flavouring.

DAVIDsTEA Mango Madness tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar
Day 2 – Mango Madness
White Tea, Low Caffeine
Another tangy one with a really nice hit of sour. This one is juicy and reminds me of Fuzzy Peach candies, but after the initial fruity hit it mellows down to an almost floral blend.

Ingredients: Apple, white tea, candied pineapple (pineapple, cane sugar, citric acid, sulphur dioxide), orange pieces and peel, safflowers, strawberries, calendula petals, mango (mango, sugar, citric acid, sulphur dioxide), stevia extract and natural mango flavouring.

DAVIDsTEA Orange Pekoe tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar
Day 3 – Orange Pekoe
Black Tea, Medium Caffeine
I’m glad that not all the teas are flavoured because sometimes you just need a basic cup of tea. This Orange Pekoe is a really nice high-quality blend that isn’t too bitter and has a great aftertaste.

Ingredients: Fine black teas from Ceylon, Sri Lanka.

DAVIDsTEA Organic Sweet Almond Green tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar
Day 4 – Organic Sweet Almond Green
Green Tea, Low Caffeine
IT SMELLS LIKE MARZIPAN! (And I love marzipan). Subtle, not bitter like most green with a hint of sweet nutty flavours, this has a sticky sweet scent and pairs perfectly with a Tootsie Roll.

Ingredients (organic): Green tea, almonds, marigold flowers, cornflower petals. With natural almond flavouring.

DAVIDsTEA Banana Nut Bread tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar
Day 5 – Banana Nut Bread
Fruit Infusion, Caffeine-Free
This really does smell just like banana bread. It has this odd buttery and nutty quality to it and when I was steeping, it almost seemed to be frothing or fizzing as the dried chunks of bananas softened in the water. The taste is not nearly as delicious as the scent but I still liked it.

Ingredients: Dates, currants, almonds, banana, artificial flavouring.

DAVIDsTEA Glitter and Gold black tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar
Day 6 – Glitter & Gold
Black Tea, Medium Caffeine
A fairly strong black tea with a powerful punch of cloves. I replaced my daily morning coffee with this for 2 days and it was a great substitute. It has a bit of a chai taste only a bit tangier. Plus those adorable gold star sprinkles just make me so happy.

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, lemon peel, sugar sprinkles (sugar, rice flour, partly hydrogenated canola oil , shellac, titanium oxide, iron oxide, potato starch), sugar, cloves, natural and artificial flavouring.

DAVIDsTEA Organic North African Mint tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar
Day 7 – Organic North African Mint
Green Tea, Low Caffeine
If you’re craving a chai tea but don’t want the bold taste of a black tea, this is for you. The spices in this are quite strong, I can distinctly taste the cardomom, fennel, clove and pepper. The licorice adds a nice aftertaste to this mix, but I found the peppermint to be quite subtle, which is odd since this is named after the mint.

Ingredients (organic): Green tea, ginger, peppermint, cardamom, licorice root, fennel, clove, black pepper.

Out of this week’s 7 teas, I will definitely repurchase Mango Madness and Sweet Almond Green… and maybe even North African Mint.
