MAC By Request Hoop, Pink Poodle and Glam lipsticks review

MAC By Request Hoop, Pink Poodle and Glam lipsticks review

Back in July last year, MAC Cosmetics asked their Facebook fans to decide which retro lipstick and eyeshadow shades to bring back for a limited time. Well, finally the time for the reveal has come! The MAC By Request choices are Pink Poodle, Hoop and Glam lipsticks and Fiction, Diesel and Butterscotch eyeshadows!

MAC Pink Poodle glaze lipstick
FIRST PLACE with 391,741 votes:
Pink Poodle – Described as a vivid fuchsia pink, this is has a glaze finish.  This has a very subtle blue shimmer to it.

It goes on with a gel-like consistency (a bit similar to Marc Jacobs gel lipstick). This is not the typical glaze formula I am used to that is super drying.

MAC Pink Poodle lipstick
The color is sort of bold but a little subdued, if that makes sense. And because of the cool undertone, it really brightens up my skin.
WEAR TIME: 4 hours or so (typical for Glaze formula)

L-R: Pink Poodle, MAC Girl About Town, Tom Ford Pure Pink
Pink Poodle is the subtle glaze version of Girl About Town! And it is surprisingly close to the one and only Tom Ford I have.

MAC Hoop satin lipstick
SECOND PLACE with 342,613 votes:
Hoop – Described as midtonal rosey pink, this one is satin finish (creamy but not as creamy as amplified).

MAC Hoop lipstick 2
This one applied very evenly and was super pigmented. The formula is fairly typical to the MAC satin formula only a little bit less hydrating than normal.

MAC Hoop lipstick
This is very neutral. In some lights I think it’s a touch warm but in others it looks cool. The more photos I see of people wearing this (with all different skintones) the more I realize this is universally flattering!
WEAR TIME: 6-7 hours

L-R: Hoop, MAC Haute Altitude, NYX Fig round lipstick
DUPE ALERT: NYX Fig!

MAC Glam matte lipstick
THIRD PLACE with 313,038 votes:
Glam – Described as a vivid bright pink-red in a matte formula. In the tube, it looks almost warm, but wait ’til you see it on…

MAC Glam lipstick 2
This is what I like to call a semi-matte (even though it’s labelled as Matte). It is quite creamy for a matte, not drying at all. And it almost has a sheen to it. One swipe is all you need with this highly-pigmented lipstick, plus it doesn’t bleed/feather.

MAC Glam lipstick
Because you can’t have enough perfect red lipsticks! Honestly, the blue undertone makes my teeth look really white!
WEAR TIME: 7-8 hours. This is almost transfer-proof and when it does fade, it leaves a beautiful pink stain.

L-R: Glam, MAC RiRi Woo (shown to compare to the Retro Matte formula), The Lip Bar Cosmo (reviewed here)

My thoughts: All 3 of these are a hit for me with Hoop being my absolute favourite. The formulas are amazing (even the Glaze one which is a finish I don’t typically like) and I feel like all 3 shades could work for anyone. Well done, MAC!

Have you picked up any of the MAC By Request collection?
