MAC Cosmetics Matte Royal Lipstick review

MAC Cosmetics Matte Royal Lipstick review

It has been awhile since I’ve done a MAC Monday feature, so as always I figured I would jump back into it with PURPLE! As you know, MAC released a whole bunch of new permanent matte lipstick shades, and out of the ones I grabbed the most unique one, Matte Royal.

Described as a deep blue, this is actually more of a “blurple” than anything. It’s deep, dark and cool-toned.

This applies very soft, a bit patchy but it has a silky-like quality to it. It is quite hydrating and I was surprised at how good it felt on my lips.

I paired this with Benefit’s new They’re Real mascara in blue and it’s such a cool look! The trick to wearing this type of shade with fair skin is amping up your blush or bronzer (which I actually did here… the initial photos I took I looked much more ghostly).

Matte Royal is more matte and cooler than Gunner, and is a bit less matte and waaaay cooler than By Starlight.

Despite its slight patchiness, I am smitten with this shade. I can see it being a great base for holographic glosses or even glitters. Plus, it is such a statement lipstick (without being vampy burgundy or bright red). I’d say this is a very wearable almost blue.

I also grabbed Stone, Whirl and Men Love Mystery. Any preference on which one I feature next?

The new Matte Lip collection is available now online at The Bay and MAC Cosmetics.
