12 lipsticks, 16 fluidlines… I think MAC is trying to…
My lipstick hoarding continues with the MAC Philip Treacy collection! There were 3 shades released; Hollywood Cerise and Cardinal are new shades, No Faux Pas is a repromote from the holidays (so the lipstick I have on display here is from that release).
NO FAUX PAS is described as a yellow hot pink with a matte finish.
I don’t find it to be very “yellow-toned”, and next to VG Miley it actually looks very cool. It’s also lighter and brighter than Girl About Town, and more matte.
The formula sits somewhere in between a typical MAC matte and a retro matte. It’s a not drying but not hydrating, and there is very little shine.
Not sure how I feel about wearing this lipstick with a bright eyeliner, but I do love the colour of No Faux Pas. I have been hiding it away until the weather gets warmer because this is a perfect Spring to Summer shade!
(Note: when I swatched this on my arm, it stained the heck out of my skin!)
It’s a hint lighter and more pink than the February shade of the Bite Beauty Lip Lab Limited series. It’s darker and has less shimmer than Tom Ford Pure Pink.
CARDINAL is described as a yellow burgundy red with a satin finish.
You can see this doesn’t really lean as yellow when compared to Revlon Really Red. It is also very similar to Maria Moretti (released on the same day), but Cardinal is a bit creamier and pigmented and a touch more vibrant.
I actually really like this formula because of its creamy, easy-to-apply nature. It has a bit of a shine, very little slip and feathering, and is really just a nice red.
Although it is listed as a yellow-red, I think it leans more neutral. It’s nice, and I think I like it better than Maria Moretti, but it is definitely not unique.
If you were going to choose only one lipstick from this collection, I’d go with Hollywood Cerise, followed by No Faux Pas. But if you need a killer neutral red, Cardinal is pretty! (Decisions, decisions)
The MAC Philip Treacy hits select stores Thursday April 2 and is available online now!
